Eid Al Fitr 2025: Saudi Arabia Calls for Shawwal Crescent Sighting to Confirm Eid Date
Saudi Arabia Urges Muslims to Sight the Shawwal Crescent for Eid Al Fitr Confirmation

Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court has issued a call for Muslims across the Kingdom to observe the crescent moon of Shawwal on the evening of Saturday, March 29, 2025, marking the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid Al Fitr.
Key Details:
- Date of Shawwal Crescent Sighting: Saturday, March 29, 2025 (Ramadan 29, 1446 Hijri)
- Purpose: The sighting will confirm the end of Ramadan and the start of Eid Al Fitr.
- Action for Observers: Anyone who sight the crescent moon, either by eye or with binoculars, should report their observation to the nearest court or regional committee.
If the crescent is not sighted on Saturday, Ramadan will extend to 30 days, and Eid will be celebrated on Monday, March 31. Should the crescent be visible on March 29, Eid will be observed on Sunday, March 30.
Why It Matters:
Eid Al Fitr, the festival marking the conclusion of Ramadan, is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Muslims worldwide eagerly await the confirmation of Eid, which is traditionally observed with prayers, feasts, and charity.
For further updates and guidance on moon sighting procedures, citizens can contact their local courts or observation centers.
