Eid Al Fitr Expected to Begin on March 30, 2025, Says Kuwait’s Al Ojairi Center

The crescent moon is anticipated to rise on March 29, 2025, at 1:57 pm, signaling the potential start of Eid.
Dubai: According to astronomical predictions from Kuwait’s Al Ojairi Scientific Center, Eid Al Fitr is expected to begin on Sunday, March 30, 2025. The Center stated that the crescent moon will appear at 1:57 pm on March 29 (Ramadan 29) and will remain visible for only eight minutes after sunset. However, this short visibility window makes it highly unlikely for the moon to be sighted with the naked eye in Kuwait.
The visibility of the moon will also vary in other parts of the world. In some Southeast Asian Islamic cities, the moon is expected to set before the sun, making it impossible to observe.
While the Al Ojairi Center’s forecast is based on scientific data, the official announcement regarding the beginning of Shawwal, the month that marks the start of Eid, will be made by the Sharia Moon Sighting Authority. This body has the religious responsibility to declare the start of Eid Al Fitr.
The visibility of the crescent moon will differ across Arab and Islamic countries, with a window ranging from four to twenty minutes depending on location, the Center added.
As Kuwait prepares for Eid, the government has announced two possible holiday schedules:
- If Eid begins on March 30, public sector workers will have a three-day break, returning to work on Wednesday, April 2.
- If Eid starts on March 31, the holiday will extend to five days, with work resuming on Sunday, April 6.
Institutions providing essential services will coordinate their holiday schedules with relevant authorities.
This announcement brings excitement as the country looks forward to the traditional three-day Eid holiday, while awaiting confirmation of the date from the Sharia Moon Sighting Authority.
