Saudi Arabia Implements New Guidelines for Umrah Pilgrims During Last 10 Days of Ramadan

Updated Operational Procedures Aim to Enhance Pilgrimage Experience and Ensure Safety

As Ramadan nears its conclusion, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has introduced a new set of operational guidelines for pilgrims heading to Mecca during the final 10 days of the holy month. These measures aim to manage the expected influx of worshippers and ensure a smooth, safe, and spiritually enriching Umrah experience.

Key Guidelines for Pilgrims:

  • One Umrah Only: Pilgrims are advised to perform Umrah just once during the last 10 days of Ramadan to reduce overcrowding at the Grand Mosque.
  • Advance Permits Required: International pilgrims must secure their Umrah permit via the Nusuk app before entering the Grand Mosque or the Prophet’s Mosque.
  • Designated Time Slots: To ease congestion, pilgrims are encouraged to arrive strictly within their designated time slots for Umrah.
  • Prayers Across Mecca: Pilgrims are advised to perform daily prayers in mosques throughout Mecca instead of focusing solely on the Haram to alleviate pressure on the sacred site.
  • Public Transportation: Use of public transportation is highly recommended to prevent traffic congestion and facilitate smoother movement within the city.

Enhanced Services for Pilgrims

The General Authority for the Care of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has ramped up operational readiness, deploying thousands of personnel and advanced equipment to manage the crowds and provide essential services.

  • Sanitation & Cleanliness: The entire mosque can now be sanitized in just 35 minutes, with over 20 rounds of perfuming using 2 kilograms of oud daily.
  • Accessibility Features: Authorities have made significant upgrades to support the elderly and people with disabilities, including dedicated prayer areas and 24/7 childcare facilities.
  • Logistical Support: Over 428 escalators, 28 elevators, and 1,300 electric speakers have been prepared to ensure seamless movement and communication within the mosques.

Digital Solutions for Pilgrims

A new unified digital platform has been introduced for pilgrims to reserve transportation throughout Mecca, streamlining the mobility of worshippers during the busy final days of Ramadan.

These comprehensive measures reflect Saudi Arabia’s commitment to ensuring that pilgrims can perform their Umrah rites in peace and comfort, while also maintaining the safety and sanctity of the holy sites.
