Police across the United States are investigating a series of attacks on Tesla showrooms, charging stations, and vehicles, as public anger against CEO Elon Musk continues to escalate. These incidents come in response to Musk’s policies, particularly his Department of Government Efficiency’s decision to slash federal jobs and budgets, which has sparked widespread criticism.
While many of the protests at Tesla locations have remained peaceful, demonstrators have been seen carrying signs and chanting “Elon Musk has got to go.” Despite the peaceful nature of the protests, reports of vandalism have surfaced, and though no injuries have been reported, these incidents could lead to significant financial setbacks for Tesla. The company is already experiencing declining sales for the first time, due to increased competition and growing backlash over Musk’s controversial role in the Trump administration.
- On March 3, seven Tesla charging stations in a mall outside of Boston were set on fire shortly after 1 a.m. local time.
- The following Thursday, police responded to gunshots fired at a Tesla showroom near Portland, Oregon, at around 1:45 a.m. local time. Investigators confirmed that at least seven shots were fired, causing damage to three cars and shattering windows. One bullet even passed through an office wall and into a computer monitor.
Authorities in Tigard, Oregon, stated, “While the motivation for this has not been confirmed, we are aware that other Tesla dealerships across Oregon and the nation have been targeted for political reasons.”
